STUDENT PILOT

As a first-time applicant, we understand that you will have many questions, and we are here to help!
The most common question involves the class of medical certificate needed. The class of certificate you will need depends upon your future goals as a pilot. If you intend to pursue aviation as a career, you will want to apply for a Class 1 certificate. Most flight schools require a class 1 for admission to make sure that you medically meet all the standards for a commercial pilot. However if you are interested in flying for fun only, a class 3 is all that is required to solo and eventually obtain your pilot license.
It is important to be aware that a pilot must meet certain medical standards to obtain a medical certificate. If you have a serious medical condition, a current or past history of anxiety, depression or ADHD or have had a DUI, alcohol or drug offense or other legal issue such as a misdemeanor or felony, it is important that you schedule a FLIGHT CONSULT prior to a flight medical exam.

Color Test

WAGGONER COMPUTERIZED COLOR TEST

All first-time applicants will require an FAA approved color test. The FAA requires that pilots be able to perceive those colors necessary for safe flight operations. First-time applicants and those pilots upgrading their class will be given the Waggoner Computerized Color Test. There is an additional fee of $50 added to your exam for this service. If you think you may have color issues you can schedule a FLIGHT CONSULT prior to your Flight Medical to determine if you would pass this test. Another option would be to take and practice this exam online.
